Humane Education
can be defined as "a process that encourages and understanding of the need for compassion and respect for people, animals and the environment and recognizes the interdependence of all living things."

Humane Education Resources

A single humane educator can reach thousands of people by promoting the message of humane living and sharing the knowledge, skills, and motivation to create profound and positive change. Here are some of the topics that we address and will address in our Humane Education Program.

Understanding and Reporting Animal Cruelty

Breeders and Breeding

Children, Safety and German Shepherds

Animal Cruelty and Human Violence

Humane Education at the Center

In her book “The Power and Promise of Humane Education”, the author, Zoe Weil, identifies four elements that provide the foundation of quality Humane Education:

1.      Providing accurate information so students understand the consequences of their decision as consumers and citizens.

2.      Fostering the 3 C’s: Curiosity, Creativity, and Critical thinking, so that students can evaluate information and solve problems.

3.      Instilling the 3 R’s: Reverence, Respect, and Responsibility, so that students will act with kindness and integrity.

4.      Offering positive choices for that benefit oneself, other people, the Earth and animals so that students feel empowered to help create a more humane world.

Using these 4 elements as a guide, we designed the GSR&RC Humane Education program to provide German Shepherd owners with the resources to:

·         Help in solving behavioral problems in order to prevent owner relinquishment

·         Provide the proper level of care for our German Shepherds

·         Understand the consequences of irresponsible behavior toward German Shepherd Dogs

·         Live with respect for and compassion towards German Shepherd Dogs, the earth and all creatures
